Teaching Biography

Peter Carpenter teaches choreography from a perspective influenced by embodied research and dance, performance and cultural studies scholarship. As Assistant Professor at the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago since 2005, Carpenter teaches courses in Dance History, Cultural Perspectives on Dance, Contemporary Trends in Dance, Research Seminar, and all levels of choreography. In all these courses, interdisciplinary approaches are brought to bear upon the relationship of content and form.

In addition to his appointment at Columbia College, Carpenter is also a sought after guest teacher in studio and university settings. Guest classes and residencies include: UCLA Department of World Arts and Cultures, Northwestern University, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, University of Alaska-Anchorage and Fairbanks, Links Hall, Blue Rider Theater, Raleigh School of Ballet, Hedwig Dances, Wesleyan College, Ferris State University, and University of Texas-Austin
